Jo Ann (nee Gauquie) Schmitz, 82, of Peabody, Kansas died Wednesday September 15 2021. She was born in New York to parents who predeceased her named Louis and Janet (Jagodzinski) Gauquie. She was a long time resident of the Walden, Maybrook and Newburgh areas. She had been a resident in Kansas since 2016. She obtained her GED from Orange-Ulster BOCES in Goshen, New York. She met and married Matthew Schmitz of Wallkill, New York and they had 5 children together.
She worked for the bag factory in Walden which had changed names several times – Interstate Packaging Corp, Champion and AMPAC among them. Later in life, she met David B. Weimer Jr and, after retirement, moved to Rochester, New York. After Dave’s passing, she moved to Kansas.
Jo Ann is survived by her children: Theresa Schmitz of Kansas, Jean James of South Carolina, Debra (Ralph) Flatt of New Jersey, Charles (Kathryn) Schmitz of New York, and Jo Ann J. (Brett) Fitzgerald of Melbourne, Australia, and her brother James Gauquie of New York. She also leaves behind grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and many cousins in New York, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and several European countries. She is predeceased by her mother, Janet (Jagodzinski) Gauquie and Louis Gauquie, her brother Louis Gauquie of CA and her son Charles of New York.
Funeral services are to be decided at the convenience of the family.
